Self-publishing a first book
is a daunting experience. Where do you begin? How do you find
a printer/publisher? And how do you determine if they are
trustworthy and knowledgeable? Especially if the work you
want to publish is only a novella. Who will take that seriously
from a first-time author? And trying to research it online
can compound the confusion, frustrations, and questions.
Fortunately for me, I found Steve and Dawn at Stillwater River
Publications early in my search. In fact, they were the first
publishers I contacted, and I was so impressed by my first
chat with Steve that I did not feel the need to look any further.
He took time to lay out in detail the services they provide
and patiently answered my many questions. He then provided
me with an ala carte menu of services and options and then
took more time to candidly discuss ones that made sense for
me and the ones that I probably didn't need.
He then accepted my manuscript, formatted it, and returned
it for final proofreading, making all changes that I felt
I needed. He also generated several suggestions for front
and rear cover art and accepted requests for changes to my
favorite one, making it even more of a favorite. In fact,
the cover turned out to be so much better than the one I was
sure I wanted, and I have received numerous compliments on
it.
Steve then sent me the author's copy, acquired the ISBN number
and assigned a barcode for the printed book, and posted it
on Amazon. The entire process was straightforward, amazingly
easy, and very affordable. I was quite impressed by and grateful
for their assistance and guidance.
Thank you Steve and Dawn!!!

There
are many lovely reviews of Dawn and Steve Porter's book store
on their website. They have a beautiful, open, and bright
store located in a well-maintained section of Pawtucket, Rhode
Island. Access is super easy on and off of Interstate 95.
They display all of the authors they publish, a charming plus,
and stock authors' books. You will also find many other books
new and used. But what I want to discuss is the outstanding
publishing services that Dawn and Steve Porter offer. I just
completed my new book and am waiting for my first book order
to arrive. It is an exciting time for an author. Two
Sides of the Mirror is not my first book, my first was
also self-published, but that first experience can not even
compare with this one.
Before choosing to work with
Stillwater River Publications, I did an extreme amount of
research and was very uneasy about choosing between the other
self-publishers that I found. I wanted the experience of meeting
the people I was going to be working with to publish the book
that I had just spent four years creating. I wanted to know
they were real and call and reach them if I had questions.
And no matter how many times you go through the process, there
will always be questions. You will never be passed off to
a new author representative every other week; it will always
be Dawn or Steve.
From the moment I met them,
I could feel the difference. These people actually care about
your publishing needs and will take you by the hand and gently
lead you through every step of publishing your book, if that
is what you need. No question is ever a foolish question to
either of them. Each author is allowed the time they need
to take their book to completion. Their publishing rates are
an affordable alternative for independent authors and writers.
You will not need to take from your children's college fund
to publish your book. I did not find any other company out
there that could even come close to what Steve and Dawn Porter
will offer you.
They answered all of my questions
and assisted me in choosing my cover image. They will both
work with you until your book is perfect. Imagine being able
to sit with either Dawn or Steve and discuss the publishing
process and see and feel the quality of their finished book;
both the pages and cover quality are excellent. Talk with
them before you make this most crucial decision; you will
not regret it!
